House signs first appeared in Prague on the facades already in the 14th century. At first, they were to facilitate orientation in blind long rows of houses, later they became a fashion thing for wealthier owners. Most house signs today can be found in the Lesser Town, especially in the well know Nerudova street as well as in the centre of historic Prague.
